The 2024 3rd XI at their home ground, Westleigh
Third XI
Having spent the 2024 season as an umpire with a broken wrist, I am delighted to be taking on the
role of 3rd XI captain this season, after Ali Poll kindly stood in for the role when the elected captain,
Rich Clarke, found himself continuously selected to play for the 2nd XI. 2024 proved to be a tough
season for the 3rd XI. Ali did a wonderful job pulling all sorts of favours and somehow managing to
field a team for every match – this was some achievement. We eventually won a fixture but were
unsurprisingly relegated. So in 2025 we find ourselves competing in a new division of the Devon
Cricket League, Central Division G. This involves a new mixture of genuinely local fixtures (North
Molton and Hatherleigh) and not so local (Paignton and Torquay) and we look forward to an exciting
season hopefully introducing more teenagers to the joys of adult cricket.
