NDCC 2024 2nd XI
Second XI
2024 was in equal amounts enjoyable and challenging for the 2nd team. We finished safely mid table,
neither pushing for promotion or nervous about relegation. We really struggled with availability
throughout the season and rarely put out half of the same team two weeks in a row. We were
represented by a huge number of different players, over 30 by the end of the season.
One major positive from my perspective was the number of juniors who played. There were 10 under
15’s who played during the season and many more from the under 17’s and 19’s. I am hugely
pleased to say that one of those under 15’s, Navindu, won the Tom Allin award for the best under 18
across the club. He opened the batting every week and also chipped in with some important wickets
as well. I hope he continues to develop this season and challenges for a role in the first team.
Another individual that I have to single out is Gee. She was ever present throughout the season,
regularly contributed with both bat and ball and was without doubt one of the best fielders in the
team. I was delighted to name her as the 2nd team player of the year and I feel it’s also important to
note that she’s the first lady to win this award in the history of the club.
We’ve had a few additions during the winter which should give us a bit more strength in depth. I also
know that there many more juniors who will be challenging for roles as they continue to develop their
games. We’re hoping to be much more competitive this season and get into a winning habit early on.
