MENS CRICKET –
Review of 2024
First XI
2024 brought a sense of new beginnings for the 1st team at North Devon CC – with myself as a new
captain and being in a new division of the Devon Cricket League, the A division. These allowed us to
create a new method of how to consistently compete and win games. To win the league at the first
attempt with such a young group was a great effort all round. We are blessed at NDCC to have a
crop of fantastic young players such as James Tyson, Jack Whittaker, Reuben Windley, Will Popham
and Jay Rothery, combined with experienced players to provide the continuity – such as Tom and
Jack Popham, Josh Atkinson, Richard Screech, Dan Bowser and Fred King.
Throughout the 2024 season, we grew as a side in every game. Games that we might have lost in
the past, we found a way to hang on in and win, which only holds us in good stead going into 2025.
The batting was led by young Jack Whittaker with 2x50 and a superb 100 vs Torquay. Everyone
chipped in on different days which was a big part of our success. Bowling has always been our strong
point and Jack Popham, Theo Valerie, Josh Atkinson, Roshan Lakmal and James Tyson were
fantastic at all times. However, the most pleasing bowler to emerge was Will Popham, who showed
great potential , taking on the senior role at an early age and 2025 will be a huge season for him and
his development. Overall we couldn9t have asked for a better 2024 season and we thank you as
supporters of the club for backing us week in, week out.
